what is an electronic differential lock (EDL)?

Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) is a limited slip differential imitation - this is an electronic system that detects wheelspin via ABS sensors and applies brakes to spinning wheels. This results in the torque being transferred via open differentials to another wheel that has more traction.

For example, the system brakes the wheel that is raised in the air and spinning freely, and engine power goes to another wheel that is on the ground.

I have a 2004 cadillac ext awd and the front cv shaft broke but the truck will not stop when placed into park.... does that mean the rear axle is not working and only the front axle is pulling ???i have no idea how to understand that the rear axle doesnt lock when the trans is placed into park

It Does any conection among ABS and any problem with Transfer?

MB used such a system in the original ML-class SUV.
MB wrote that overheating was a potential problem.
The brake hardware can overheat, so a computer model is utilized to calculate expected brake temperature. Therefore a safe reserve can be programmed in.
Also the ABS hardware can overheat, though MB says it will take two minutes of continuous operation to do so.
